Jump The Hedges T-Shirt - Part I - Field Trip π©π»βπΎ
Two years ago I started a project which aimed to recognise each pair of hands that participates in the making of a t-shirt; a complete βfarm to garmentβ story π±
This seemingly simple task ended up being so much more complex & difficult than I ever could have imagined! π€―
The first step was sourcing a traceable European grown fibre. After months of research I found a non GMO Greek cotton that is completely traceable back to the field it was grown in π¬π·
Known as Supreme Green Cotton, it is cultivated using an efficient drip irrigation system & is grown in collaboration with farmers ensuring security regardless of weather & market fluctuations π€
Already in Athens for a bootcamp with @fash_rev I hopped on a train to the home of cotton in northern Greece to see it all for myself π
I managed to convince the factory manager to not only take me on a tour of the yarn factory but also of the neighbouring ginning factory & local cotton fields. Lastly I managed to convince him to let me purchase a tiny amount of yarn WAY below their minimum order quantity for my project π
